Standardized Construction Process for Drainage Ditches
Drainage ditches are important drainage facilities in municipal roads, industrial parks, and landscape engineering. Their construction quality directly affects site drainage, flood prevention, and foundational maintenance. To ensure smooth drainage and structural stability, construction must strictly follow a standardized process, progressing in an orderly manner through the stages of preliminary preparation, trench excavation, base treatment, structural construction, backfilling, and curing.
Preliminary construction preparation is the foundation for ensuring project quality. Construction personnel must review the design drawings, verify the alignment, elevation, and dimensions of the drainage ditch on site, and clearly define the construction scope. At the same time, weeds, silt, and debris within the construction area should be cleared, the ground leveled, and site fencing and drainage measures implemented. Construction materials such as sand, gravel, concrete, and formwork should be prepared in advance, mechanical equipment performance should be checked, and technical briefings should be conducted to ensure that construction personnel are familiar with the specifications and key construction points.
During trench excavation, precision must be strictly controlled. Based on the designed slope and cross-sectional dimensions, trench excavation shall be carried out using a combination of machinery and manual labor to avoid over-excavation or under-excavation. During excavation, real-time monitoring of trench elevation, width, and slope shall be conducted to ensure a flat trench bottom and stable side slopes. If soft soil conditions are encountered, timely side slope support shall be provided to prevent trench collapse. Excavated soil shall be systematically stockpiled away from the trench edge to prevent soil slippage that could affect construction safety.
Base treatment is key to structural stability. After trench excavation is completed, the trench bottom shall be manually trimmed, and floating soil and standing water removed to ensure a compact and level base. Subsequently, a sand and gravel cushion layer shall be laid and compacted in layers to enhance base bearing capacity and prevent future settlement and deformation. After the cushion layer is completed, elevations shall be rechecked, and upon confirmation, main structural construction may proceed, including formwork support and concrete pouring, ensuring straight walls and uniform thickness.
Finally, joint sealing and troweling, trench backfilling, and curing are carried out. After initial concrete setting, formwork shall be promptly removed, and the ditch walls and bottom shall be troweled and smoothed to repair minor cracks, ensuring smooth drainage without standing water. Once the concrete reaches the specified strength, the trench sides shall be backfilled with soil in layers, with each layer compacted thoroughly. Periodic watering curing shall be conducted in the later stage to prevent cracking or damage, thereby fully ensuring the drainage function and service life of the drainage ditch.
